I have been writing a 200 page new Tamil book on our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR. I have already published 6 books through Amazon Direct Publishing. Of that two are in Tamil.

I had a doubt about the font support in Kindle and I came to know that my Tamil font no more supported in their publication. I have to rework the whole manuscript from the start. I just published a small book on the list of MGR movies with date wise titled "Makkal Thilagathin Thiraipada Patiyal" or "மக்கள் திலகத்தின் திரைப்பட பட்டியல்". I won't recommend downloading this book as there is very less information.

Teacher and translator C.Rajeswari have written 14 books on our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR. Below is the article written by Soma Basu, appeared in English newspaper The Hindu.

A little over a year ago, C Rajeswari kick-started a unique project: to write one book a month on former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, popular film star and a stalwart politician of the Dravidian movement, M.G.Ramachandran. So far, she has penned 14, in Tamil, in a series of 100 that she plans to write.

"It will take me eight years to complete," says the Madurai based translator and teacher-turned author.
But her first English title Unique Nature of MGR Fans is slated for launch on September 18 in Chennai. "Non-resident Tamils have established MGR associations in every part of the world. Many do not read Tamil but they want to know more about the cult figure that he was. So, I am writing in English too," she says. For her Tamil series of books, Rajeswari has identified subjects she wants to highlight. "it is not difficult to discover a new thing about MGR each time I meet a fan of his. There is a bit of MGR in each of them," she says, adding, "This is not because I'm a fan myself."

It was at the MGR Ulaga Peravai Manadu in Chennai last year that Rajeswari decided on her compendium. "Even three decades after his death, it is fascinating how much he is loved and revered as a philanthropist, she says. Rajeswari began researching MGR in the 1990s, when she was doing her PhD and was asked to assist Rev CRW David, the head of communications at Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary, Madurai, for his thesis on communicative value of MGR solo songs. 

"I collected MGR songs and did the content analysis." Later, when she started teaching Tamil to foreign research scholars in colleges affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, she was often asked if Indian actors joined politics only because of their popularity. This made her take a deeper look at Tamil films from the 1940s through to the 1970s. "I found two interesting things. MGR was not a swashbuckling hero, but he was popular for his generosity both in real and reel life. Whatever he did in his movies proved true in some way."

As part of her research, Rajeswari reads books and newspaper articles, watches MGR interviews and meets hundreds of fans from all walks of life, including rickshaw pullers and tea kiosk owners. She even visited the MGR temple in Thiruninravur to understand the mindset of his fans, where she came across 'devotees' who consider MGR deivam (God). They chant his name 108 times as if they were shlokas, and observe 25 days of abstinence from December 24 (the date of his death) to January 17 (his date of birth), at the end of which they visit the temple.

The more people she met including those who worked with him - like his tailor, photographer and personal cook - Rajeswari found MGR's life, behaviour and attitude towards people and work is what set him apart.  The best anecdotes were shared by his three nieces Geetha, Latha and Sudha, and his adopted daughter Radha. They described him as someone who remained popular among the poor, and was friends of the wealthy too, and that he conversed only in Tamil and was passionate about upholding the legacy of Tamil culture and literature, she says.

"His fans love him for his confidence and optimism and also exempt him from being culpable for anything," she adds.

I have already visited MGR's bodyguard Mr.K.P.Ramakrishnan house some 4 years back and I have given a detailed post about the visit, covering many aspects and unknown facts about our beloved Puratchi Thalaivar MGR.

This time on 7th September I made a visit and met K.P.Ramakrishnan now in his early 90s looks active and eager to share the anecdotes from MGR life. In this post, I am not going to delve into what K.P.Ramakrishnan had told me but I want to share my cherished moment, of receiving a signed copy of his new book "Endrum Vazhum MGR" from his own hands, a significant moment in my life.

Many might already know that the royalty of the book is been given to charity. The book has 256 pages, with a lot of photographs, the author has dedicated the book to other MGR bodyguards M.K.Dharmalingam, N.Sankar, Narthar Singh, Muthu & V.P.Samy. The book is published by Vikatan Publications. The cost of the book is Rs.175/-

K.P.Ramakrishnan, MGR's bodyguard, has written two books on our Puratchi Thalaivar MGR, named "Manitha Punithar MGR" and "MGR Oru Sagapatham" through Ananda Vikatan Publications. Now the third book titled "என்றும் வாழும் எம்ஜிஆர் " is published this week.

Already, K.P.Ramakrishnan has given the royalty of the books to Vishrathi Home for the Aged and this new book royalty will go to the same.

Dr.H.V.Hande have published two books on our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR, one is Tamil book title "புரட்சி தலைவர் எம். ஜி.ஆர். மறுபிறவியெடுத்த வரலாறு " and another "The Critical Years Of An Immortal Legend" in English. 

எழுபது ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேலாக என் பொது வாழ்வில், நான் பல அரசியல் தலைவர்களை சந்தித்திருக்கிறேன். சிலருடன் சேர்ந்து பணியாற்றிருக்கிறேன். இருப்பினும், என் மனதில் எப்பொழுதும் நிலைத்து நிற்பது ஒரு தலைவரை பற்றித்தான், அவர்தான் புரட்சி தலைவர் எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.

நான், என் வாழ்நாளில் எதையாவது சாதித்துத்துள்ளேன் என்றால், அது புரட்சி தலைவர் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். அவர்களால்தான். அவர் அந்த அளவிற்கு, என்னை ஒரு அன்புள்ள தம்பியாக வழிநடத்தி சென்றார்.

புரட்சி தலைவர் 1984 ஆம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் மற்றும் நவம்பர் மாதங்களில், அப்பல்லோ மற்றும் புரூக்ளின் மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட காலகட்டத்தில். நான் அவருடன் பக்கத்திலேயே இருந்தேன். அப்பொழுது வெவ்வேறு பிரச்சினைகளை நாம் சந்திக்க நேர்ந்தது. இவைகளை பற்றிய எல்லா விவரங்களையும், நான் தலைவர் அமரரான இரண்டாண்டுகளுக்கு பின், எழுதிவைத்திருந்தேன். அது அப்படியே வெளிச்சத்தில் வராமல் இருந்து இருக்கும். 2017இல் மலேசியாவில் எனக்கு ஒரு புதுமையான அனுபவம் ஏற்படாமல் இருந்து இருந்தால்!

தீடீரென 2017இல், மலேசியாவின் தலைநகரமான  கோலாலம்பூரியிலுள்ள டாக்டர் புருஷோத்தமன் தலைமையில் இயங்கி கொண்டு இருந்த ஒரு பிரபல கலாச்சார மன்றம், என் நண்பர் டாக்டர் ராஜிவ் துரையின் மூலமாக என்னை தொடர்பு கொண்டார். நான் அழைப்பை ஏற்று, அந்த விழாவில் 2017ஆம் ஆண்டு மார்ச் மாதத்தில் கலந்துகொண்டேன். 

என் உரை முடிந்ததும், அன்று அரங்கத்தில் கூடியிருந்த ஆயிரத்திற்கும் மேற்பட்ட புரட்சித்தலைவரின் அபிமானிகள், என்னை சூழ்ந்து கொண்டு நான் கூறிய புரட்சித்தலைவருடன் நடைபெற்ற நிகழ்வுகளையெல்லாம், ஒரு நூல் வடிவத்தில் கொண்டுவர என்னை வற்புறுத்தினார்கள். அவர்களின் விருப்பத்திருக்கு ஏற்ப புரட்சித்தலைவருடன் எனக்கு ஏற்பட்ட அனுபவங்களையும், நான் ஏற்கனவே பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு எழுதிவைத்திருந்த புரட்சித்தலைவர் அப்பல்லோ மற்றும் புரூக்ளின் மருத்துமனைகளில் அனுமதிக்கப்பட்ட காலத்தில் நடந்த நிகழ்வுகளை பற்றியும், இந்நூல் மூலமாக வாசகர்களுடன் பகிர்ந்துகொள்ள முன்வந்துள்ளேன்.

We all know that our beloved Leader MGR is a philanthropist and benevolent human being who have walked this earth, second to God in character.

Recently the Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit released “Moondrezhuthu Athisayam MGR” book written by VIT Founder Chancellor Dr.G.Viswanathan. In the event the Governor praised MGR’s deeds to the people. The following is sent by MGR Devotee Vinod to share in our blog.

ஒரு  கல்லூரி  விழாவில்  பேசிய  போது  தமிழக  கவர்னர்  பன்வாரி லால்   புரோஹித்  புரட்சித்  தலைவர்  எம்.ஜி.ஆர்  அவர்களைப்  பற்றி...

"ஏழை...எளிய  மக்கள்  நலனுக்காக  பல்வேறு  திட்டங்களைச்  செயல்படுத்தியவர்  எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.  அவரது  ஆட்சி  காலம்  தமிழகத்தின்  பொற்காலமாகும்.  அவர்  1977  முதல்  1987  வரை  தமிழக  முதல்வராக  இருந்து  பல்வேறு  திட்டங்களைச்  செயல்படுத்தி,  நாட்டுக்கே  வழிகாட்டியாய்  விளங்கினார்.  அவர்  கொண்டு  வந்த  சத்துணவுத்  திட்டத்தால்  பள்ளிகளில்  இடை  நின்றல்  குறைந்தது.

அவர்  ஆட்சி  காலத்தில்  தான்  கொடைக்கானலில்  பெண்களுக்கு  என  பல்கலைக்கழகம்,  மகளீர்  மேம்பாட்டுக்  கழகமும்  தொடங்கப்பட்டது.  ராமாபுரம்  தோட்டத்தில்  காது  கேளாதோர்  மேல்  நிலைப் பள்ளி,  சத்யா  ஸ்டூடியோவில்  தொடங்கிய  மகளீர்  கல்லூரி  ஆகியவை  இன்றும்  சிறப்புடன்  செயல்பட்டு  வருகிறது.

மகாபாரதத்தில்  கர்ணன்  கொடையாளராக  இருந்ததைப்  போல்  நிஜ  வாழ்க்கையில்  எம்.ஜி.ஆர்  வள்ளலாக  இருந்தார்.  இந்தியா..சீனா  யுத்தத்தின்  போது  ரூ 50  ஆயிரம்  நிதி  வழங்கி  தனது  தேசப்பற்றை  நிரூபித்தவர்  எம்.ஜி.ஆர்.  அவர்  சுயநிதி  கல்லூரிகளுக்கு  அனுமதி  வழங்கியதின்  மூலம்  தமிழகத்தில்  உயர்கல்வியில்  புரட்சியை  உருவாக்கினார்.

நண்பர்களே!  மனிதருள்  மாணிக்கம்  புரட்சித்  தலைவர்  எம்.ஜி.ஆர்  மறைந்து  30  ஆண்டுகளைக்  கடந்து  விட்ட  நிலையில்  இன்றைக்கும்  அவர்  ஆட்சியில்  செய்த  சாதனைக்கு  புகழாரம்  சூட்டப் படுகிறதென்றால்  அவரை  நாம்  பின்தொடர்வதில்  நமக்கும்  பெருமை  சேர்க்கும்.!  மக்கள்  திலகத்தை  மனம்  திறந்து  பாராட்டி  உள்ள  மேதகு  ஆளுனர்  பன்வாரி லால்  புரோஹித்  அவர்களை  மனதார  வாழ்த்திடுவோம்.!

I have shared hundreds of incidents of people meeting our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR in person, they come in all walks of life.

I have written and published an EBook on Puratchi Thalaivar MGR titled “A Close Encounter With God: Expressions of MGR Fans”. The book is about a real life incident that happened on 17th May 1984. This short book is published by Amazon Asia-Pacific Holdings Private Limited.

Pride Of Tamil Cinema

In 40th year of Chennai Book Fair, I went to several stalls in search of Thalaivar books. One stall "Pure Cinema" attracted me and I went in. A book was showcased, titled "Pride of Tamil Cinema" written by Dhananjayan Govind.

The printed book cost is Rs.1,500/- and the same book in kindle edition is sold at Rs.1,234/- (link for kindle edition: Click here) The book has covered over 202 films from 1931 to 2013. 

Since it talks about Tamil films the book has covered some of our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR movies. The print quality, description and images are very good. On page 89, the book has mentioned about  the movie "Marmayogi" in two pages. And I found that the image is from our website as they have not removed the water mark.

MGR In Digital Books

Panther Publishers who have published Mohandas book titled "MGR The Man and the Myth" have now released the same book in digital format, we can read the book with our mobile phone or tablet. 

Panther publishers have sent their greetings to me and informed me that the English version and as well the Tamil version "MGR Nijamum Nizhalum" will be published in e-book.

Nadodi Mannan Film Script

MGR Fans much anticipated book Nadodi Mannan movie dialogues published by Kannadasan Pathipagam, Chennai had hit the book stands.

Recently MGR Devotee Sailesh Basu gave this book to me to share in our MGR blog.

 

 

The book is nicely printed and bound. It has coloured MGR image and a black and white image from Nadodi Mannan. The cost of the book is Rs.100/- with 200 pages includes the dialogues, songs, snippets and the story in shorter version.

Engal Thangam MGR Book

One of MGR Fans Major Dasan has contributed another jewel to MGR’s crown by publishing a book on our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR, the book titled Engal Thangam MGR.

 

 

He has compiled the articles about MGR written by Peraringnar Anna, Actors like Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, Baghayaraj and others, Producers like Nagi Reddy, AVM Saravanan and others, Poet laureate during MGR’s regime Kannadasan, poet Vali and other important persons.

 

Major Dasan has also given the complete list of MGR movies and leading pairs etc.

MGR’s bodyguard K.P.Ramakrishnan has already authored a book titled “MGR Oru Sagapatham” published by Vikatan Publications. This year K.P.Ramakrishnan has written the second book titled “Manitha Punithar MGR”.

The title of the Book is Ellarukum Piditha MGR. The book was written by Pa.Ganesh, and was published by Sri Balagangai Publications, Chennai-26. Price of the book is Rs.12/- with 32 pages.

New MGR Book

A new MGR Book titled “Dharani Kanda Thanipiravi MGR” was being released by Nakkeeran Publications. The price of the book is not mentioned.

 

 

The author of the Book is A.Sankar Rao, who has worked with our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR in more than 30 movies as still photographer.

 

A.Sankar Rao has attended Golden Jubilee of Nadodi Mannan and Platinum Jubilee of MGR in Films functions which were held in Chennai.

MGR Jewel Of the Masses

From a very modest beginning, MGR scaled the heights of popularity in Tamil Films and politics. With several mega hits under his belt, MGR’s popularity shifted over from reel to real when he became the darling of millions – as a politician, who empathised with the common man.

 

Having begun his political career as a member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) he established the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) in 1972 and was elected the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu consecutively for a record three terms. MGR’s legacy continues to flourish through various orphanages, hospitals, schools and fan clubs associated with his name.
