We srimgr.com team wishes its readers Happy Pongal. 

Many movies of our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR were released during Pongal festival. And many of us know that MGR participated only in celebrating Pongal. 

Bangalore Vinod had shared many images relating to Pongal MGR movie releases some are rare images the first time I am seeing it. 

The blockbuster hit of the year 1965 'Enga Veetu Pillai' some images not shared in our blog till now. Already I have posted the 100th day, 150th day, 175th day and 30th-week ads so I choose this to share in our blog.

Above are the ads published by the then newspapers 100th day and 150th day of Anbay Vaa and also Telugu ad for the same.

Mattukara Velan a silver jubilee movie in 1970. This movie has now completed its 50th year and still re-released in Tamil Nadu and the same is been converted to digital.

Almost I have uploaded all the ads of Mattukara Velan earlier and I wish to share the above ad showing 10th week of Mattukara Velan in Bangalore.

The last movie of MGR 'Maduraiyai Meeta Sundara Pandian' also released on Pongal day in the year 1978.

Last week our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR movies were re-released in many parts of Tamil Nadu. This week also many of his movies are released in malls and theatres.

Sri MGR Year 101, 18th March, Sunday

As cinema industry is in strike, the theatres are lookout for  movies. And many MGR movies are released in malls and cinemas.

Ninaithathai Mudipavan is running successfully in AGS cinemas, Villivakkam. The digitized version of Enga Veetu Pillai is released in Albert theatre as two shows.

Next week Emgeeyar Pictures digitized version in 4K resolution “Nadodi Mannan” will be released in Albert and Bharath.

சென்னை,

சென்னை பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில், இதுவரை பல பெரிய தலைவர்கள் பெயரில் ஆய்வு இருக்கைகள் அமைக்கப்பட்டு செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது. இதன் மூலம் அந்த தலைவர்கள் பற்றி மாணவர்கள் ஆய்வு செய்ய வசதியாக இருக்கிறது. தற்போது எம்.ஜி.ஆர். நூற்றாண்டு விழா நடைபெற்று வருகிறது.

ஆனால், அவர் மறைந்து 30 ஆண்டுகள் ஆனபிறகும், அவர் பற்றி ஆய்வுகள் மேற்கொள்ள முடியவில்லை என சைதை துரைசாமியின் மனித நேய மையத்தின் வழியாக ‘சிவில் சர்வீஸ்’ தேர்வு எழுதும் மாணவர்கள் மூலம் அவருக்கு தெரிய வந்தது. இதற்கு காரணம் அவர் பெயரில் ஆய்வு இருக்கை இல்லை என்று மாணவர்கள் தெரிவித்தனர்.

ரூ.25 லட்சம் வழங்கினார்

இதைத் தொடர்ந்து, சைதை துரைசாமி உடனடியாக சென்னை பல்கலைக்கழகத்தை தொடர்பு கொண்டு எம்.ஜி.ஆர். பெயரில் ஆய்வு இருக்கை அமைக்க ரூ.25 லட்சத்தை அவர் தலைமையில் இயங்கி வரும் மனிதநேய மையத்தின் சார்பில் வழங்கினார். இதற்கான ஒப்புதல் சென்னை பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் நேற்று நடைபெற்ற ‘சிண்டிகேட்’ கூட்டத்தில் வழங்கப்பட்டது. ‘பாரத ரத்னா புரட்சி தலைவர் எம்.ஜி.ஆர். ஆய்வு இருக்கை’ என்ற பெயரில் இந்த இருக்கை செயல்படும்.

இது குறித்து சைதை துரைசாமி நிருபர்களிடம் கூறியதாவது:-

Ramu Returns

Who will forget our beloved Leader MGR’s memorable portrayal of Ramu and bold & charming Illango in Enga Veetu Pillai.

 

1965 Silver Jubilee hit movie is been Above is an image shared by MGR Devotee S.Kumar of Madurai, the movie was released in Trichy Palace.

Another MGR devotee Yukesh Babu informed me about the booking of LUXE and Escape. Below is the image.

 

As per the report of MGR fans who had watched the movie had told that the print is good and have included digital music instead of original sound track.

MGR’s New Avatar

Today is the 101st birthday of  God of the Poor, Puratchi Thalaivar, Philanthropist and our beloved MGR. As usual all the TV Channels and some of the theatres are showing MGR movies. Let me come to the topic of this post, MGR’s new Avatar:

Most MGR fans know that in 1999 the Hindu gave an article of Pentafour a software company planned to develop a Computer generated MGR and Raj Kapoor lead movie. They went into an extent of MGR’s dental characteristics. But the project was shelved and there is no news about the movie.

Ten years later a promising animated clip of MGR was published in a website, a trailer of new MGR animated movie “Puratchi Thalaivan”.

The website carried the caption “MGR’s first 3D animated Film” The video clip started with the title given to other actors such as Super Star, Supreme Star, Mega Star, Ultimate Star, Little Super Star, Winning Star, Victory Star – The Star of all Stars our MGR. The clipping continued, a red screen on it Tamil words வாழ்ந்தவர் கோடி மறைந்தவர் கோடி மக்கள் மனதில் நிற்பவர் யார்? the screen opens up and MGR emerges, does some Nadodi Mannan style, followed by ship is sailing and MGR shooting an arrow. That ended the clip sadly the animated movie too.

 

After nine years Isari Velan’s son Isari Ganesh, Vels Film International along with Prabhu Deva Studios has planned to create MGR animated movie titled “Kizhaku Africavil Raju” (Raju in East Africa) the sequel to super duper hit Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban.

They have shared the invitation and today newspaper carried the advertisement of the movie showing our beloved MGR attired in Police Body armour vest carrying an assault weapon. Further the news about the movie is that they had planned to release it on 17.1.2019 coinciding with MGR’s 102nd birthday.

Next year if all goes well we will be having a double treat of watching the animated movie “Kizhaku Africavil Raju” and Ramana Communications “MGR”.

Re Release Enga Veetu Pillai

Vijaya Vauhini first Tamil colour movie and our beloved Leader MGR’s super hit movie of 1965, Enga Veetu Pillai was re-released this week in Mahalakshmi theatre.

Recently Mahalakshmi theatre was renovated with Qube system and DTS and they showed mostly new movies.

The posters for Enga Veetu Pillai mentioned as Qube format. But the movie is not digital.

The print is worst with lot of cuts but the audio is satisfactory. Around 800 people came to watch the evening show of our Puratchi Thalaivar MGR starrer dual action movie Enga Veetu Pillai.

Golden Jubilee Enga Veetu Pillai - 2

Sri MGR Year 98, 6th February, Friday

This is the continuation to the previous post of Enga Veetu Pillai Golden jubilee. Our Puratchi Thalaivar MGR donned dual role in this movie. Two contrasting characters one a daring and dashing Elango and another coward Ramu.

In all the 115 movies MGR acted as a hero, the character is always daring, and energetic. We always get a positive energy on watching his movies that much he took care for his character. But in Enga Veetu Pillai the character Ramu born in Zamin family is ill treated by Nambiyar grows up as a coward. Whenever the word Gajendran is mentioned and whenever he sees him, MGR shows the fear in his eyes.

In the movie MGR goes to a function without the knowledge of Nambiyar but other people comes to know about his presence, he was garlanded and praised which provokes Nambiyar. The emotions of Ramu is easily detected from the non verbal signs, MGR conveys the fear by clenching his fist, covers his chest and in extreme fear the chin is held down and makes less eye contact with the person. MGR does this perfectly on screen. Check the above images.

After this scene MGR was whipped badly by Nambiyar (wondering how people reacted in 1965) the injury is visible on the front and back of the body. MGR had perfectly reacted to the injuries he had sustained. After the beating when Pandari Bai and the baby touches him, MGR shows the REACTION to pain. The reaction part continues till MGR gives promise to Pandari Bai. See the below images.

Though Ramu character is the crux of the story his part is little compared to Elango. The character has very limited scenes to grab our attention. But very wisely MGR does that.

In the movie, on that night MGR gets up from bed and goes to his parents photos and extends his arm and tells that he wishes to join them in their world. He plans to commit suicide by jumping into the well. After he says that he wishes to join them he tries to speak further but he mumbles and  gestures what he is going to do.

Baby Shakeela stops MGR from the action and she tells this to her mother Pandari Bai. She tries to comforts him but MGR says why should he want to live, he is not intelligent, he is whipped like an animal,why should he want to live, he has only grown up but he does not know about the world. In the function someone said that one should live with honour but sister, I do not want that kind of life but only want to live like a common man. With the above lines MGR captivates our heart and will make us cry. 

Even the cook ill treats Ramu

Another scene where Ramu character scores over Elango is Saroja Devi comes to see Ramu. MGR dominates the whole scene with his submissive character. One such is pronouncing his name.

After coming to know the real plan of Nambiyar, MGR escapes from the Zamin, wanders aimlessly and comes to a hotel, where Elango has just satisfied his voracious appetite and leaves without paying. Ramu takes up the same table and orders his food, the way MGR pushes the plates and eats, the table manners shows his royal birth.  Click the below images.

After Ramu fells unconsious and saved by Rathna, MGR reacts when Elango’s mother gives him food. He struggles to intake the curd, shows the signs of vomiting and then he gets relaxed when the food settles. The expression only lasts for a second and it proves our Puratchi Thalaivar natural acting talent.

Ramu’s depressed state changes to the new environment he enjoys his life as a farmer and with his new found girl friend Rathna.

Golden Jubilee Enga Veetu Pillai

Today 14.1.2015 is the Golden Jubilee year of Vijaya Vauhini productions and our Puratchi Thalaivar MGR super duper hit movie “Enga Veetu Pillai”. Released on Pongal day in 1965 had a mammoth collection and created unparallel records.

The movie crossed silver jubilee in 7 theatres all over Tamil Nadu. The list of theatres which had 175 days run are:

Story:

Zamindar of Poonjolai had twin sons and a daughter, but one of his son was kidnapped and lost as a child and he grows up as Elango (MGR) in a village. Unfortunately the zamindar wife dies and he re-marries to look after his children. His daughter Susila (Pandaribai) and the son Ramu (MGR) grow up in the estate. Susila marries Gajendran (Nambiyar) the brother of Zamindar’s second wife after zamindar’s death Gajendran takes up the charge of the estate and treats all others as his slaves. Ramu is ill treated and grows up as a coward often whipped by Gajendran as a punishment.

As per the Will written by the Zamindar when his son Ramu reaches adulthood the whole property will be attained by him and if he dies prematurely the property will be donated to poor. As Gajendran knows the verses in the Will, he tries to amaze as much money as possible.

In the mean time a suitable bride was selected for Ramu, but the bride Leela (Sarojadevi) wants to meet Ramu in person. Arrangement is made for the meeting but it goes all wrong as Gajendran dominates the scene. Gajendran tells his plans to his sister which Ramu over hears and escapes from the Zamin.

At the same time Elango who was locked by his mother escapes from his house and reaches the town. Both Ramu and Elango crosses over unknowingly. Elango helps Leela in getting her purse from a burglar she mistakes Elango as Ramu and takes him to her house. Ranganathan (Rangarao) informs Gajendran that Ramu is staying with them. Gajendran takes Elango to his house, there Elango understands who is Ramu and what has happened to him. He also feels pity for Ramu’s sister and her daughter and continues to act as Ramu.

Ramu fells unconsious and is saved by Santha (Rathna) she takes him to Elango’s house. In the Zamin Gajendran asks Elango to sign the documents so as to transfer the property to his name. For which Elango refuse to sign, Gajendran tries to harm Elango but he returns the whipping to Gajendran this time.

Elango takes charge of the house and the business. He asks Govindan (Nagesh) to search and find out Ramu. One day Santha takes Ramu to her house and her Grand Mother who is mentally distrubed by her loss of daughter (MGR’s mother) and grandson understands that Ramu is her grandson at this point Ramu does not know about this fact.

Ranganathan happened to see Ramu and Santha together and informs this to his daughter Leela and his men brings Santha to their house. They all misunderstands that Ramu and Elango are the same person.

While inspecting the Mill, Elango orders his workers to take the injured to the hospital and Gajendran comes in between, Gajendran feels he is humiliated in front of the workers he now beats Susila and Elango stops his act. Gajendran takes his daughter and sister with him to a separate house. Susila feels bad that his brother has done wrong by fighting with Gajendran. She asks Elango to apologize, Elango goes to Gajendran but he is not willing to return.

Then Elango writes a letter stating that he is not Ramu the letter reaches Gajendran and he orders his men to grab Elango. Elango returns to Leela and tells her everything and she takes him to Santha where the mystery gets solved that Elango and Ramu are twin brothers. Unfortunately  Gajendran’s men holds Ramu thinking that he is Elango.

Now Elango returns to the Mill and saves Ramu from the clutches of Gajendran, after seeing both the twins Gajendran changes his mind. Ramu marries Santha and Elango marries Leela. The story ends in a happy note.

Songs: The movie has six scintillating songs, penned by Vali and Alangudi Somu, music by the duo Viswanathan and Ramamurthy.
