Sri MGR Year 95, 4th March, Sunday
A poem by Joyce Kilmer (American Journalist and Poet)
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
Most Kings had tree planted along roads to take care of the subjects during travel and also trees are responsible for rain.
Our King of Kings MGR when he was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu showed interest in planting saplings. In many occasions he had to plant the saplings.
Two such saplings came to news after more than two decades. The news was carried in Daily Thanthi a Tamil Newspaper.
One tree was planted by MGR in Secretariat Park during 1984 another one was in Chennai University on 19.1.1987. Unfortunately the name board in Secretariat is missing.
King of Kings MGR name will be remembered not only through his benevolence, cinema posters or songs but also through his deed as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
