Golden Jubilee MGR Movies

Below are some MGR movies that have celebrated Golden jubilee i.e. 50 years of first release and which have been published as a special post in our MGR blog from 2008 to till date.

The first I wrote about the golden jubilee celebration movie is Emgeeyar Pictures Nadodi Mannan. The movie was released on 22.08.1958 all over South India and it became a super hit and also the highest grosser movie of 1958.

The second post published for the Golden jubilee celebration is social oriented first super hit movie Thirudathey, MGR retained his title ‘Vasool Chakaravarthi’ (Emperor of Box Office collection)

The third post published in the series is Thai Sollai Thatathey, MGR as a CID, the movie was the second highest grosser of 1961.

The fourth of the series is Devar Films Thaiyaikatha Thanayan, a black and white movie with MGR as a hunter and the highest grosser movie of 1962.

Behind Nadodi Mannan Success

Sri MGR Year 98, 28th July, Tuesday

For the Golden Jubilee year of Nadodi Mannan special post, I took some points from the book titled “Yarukku Vetri” written by our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR, a special edition released after the success of Nadodi Mannan in the year 1958, in that book he has mentioned the persons responsible for the success, the cooperation given by them, the name of the persons including the artists, script writers to name of the persons who did not show up in the title card. The post that was published on 21st August 2008 in srimgr.com the article and as well as the video were inspired from that book. 

MGR’s bodyguard K.P.Ramakrishnan who also worked in the Nadodi Mannan movie had written the article with his son R.Govindaraj which was published in Dinamalar issue dated 26th October 2011, Trichy edition. He has forwarded that article to share with us through MGR blog.

In the article K.P.Ramakrishnan recollects that in the set of Kalai Arasi MGR was speaking about three persons who gave their help for Nadodi Mannan movie. The three people MGR lists is S.S.Vasan who granted movie camera for shooting the climax scene involving large and miniature sets, K.Subramaniam, the Director who helped our Thalaivar in supervising the movie and procuring colour negatives without any benefit for him and also helping him in outdoor shooting done in Munnar. Thirdly is the studio owner of Vijaya Vauhini, Nagi Reddy for his assistance in shooting the movie.

Golden Jubilee Function Part V

Nagai Dharuman received MGR Award from Pulavar Pulamaipithan, the persons near them are Thirupur Ravichandran, B.S.Raju and Theni Rajadasan.

 

Sathya Studio Manager Hari also received the MGR Award from Pulavar Pulamaipithan.

 

 

One of the oldest MGR Fans Duraisamy from Coimbatore an Engineer in profession was felicitated in the function.

 

Director Saroj Kumar was also felicitated in this function near to him is B.S.Raju, Editor Urimaikural MGR Magazine.

Tutucorin MGR Fans association was congratulated for their work in casting MGR name in Guinness Book of Records for screening more than 100 MGR movies consecutively in Tutucorin Sathya Theater, I have already updated this event in our blog.

 

Second from left is T.T.Selvan. To the extreme right in the photo is So.Ma.Velandi who traced down Jeya Mohan when he indecently wrote about MGR and Sivaji in his blog in 2008.

 

MGR Devotees were also encouraged by Pulavar Pulamaipithan in this function in the photo is B.S.Raju, Pulavar Pulamaipithan, MGR Devotee Yukesh Babu and Alandur Kumar.

 

Yesa Durai (ADMK) from Tutucorin was felicitated by Pulavar Pulamaipithan who was also responsible for screening more than 100 MGR movies in Tutucorin Sathya theater for Guinness Record.

Golden Jubilee Function Part III

All MGR Fans assembled in Rani Seethai Hall by 5 pm. Pulavar Pulamaipithan and Nagai Dharuman inaugurated the Photo Exhibition by 6 pm.

MGR Fans were excited when they saw various MGR photos mostly unseen. Boomai Publications opened a Book Stall selling various Books on MGR, followed by Thangavel’s MGR CD stall.

 

Golden Jubilee Function badge was given to 200 MGR Fans and MGR logo Cap was issued to all MGR Fans by “Manithapunithan Makkal Thilagam MGR Bakthargal Kuzhu” Madurai District.

 

Nearly 1000 people came to the Function 50% of MGR fans are from Madurai, Thirunelveli, Tutucorin, Trichy, Coimbatore, Thiruvannamalai, Kanchipuram, Pondichery etc. It was a grand success for us in combining all MGR fans in one place.

 

First Time 6 bit colour posters were used for this function in Chennai.

First Time 6 MGR co-stars participated in this function.

First time MGR fans from 20 districts participated in this function.

First time Music orchestra was performed in Rani Seethai Hall.

First time all M.G.Chakrapani Family participated in this function.

First Time all MGR poets and writers assembled in this Golden Jubilee function.

 

 

30 Feet Banner was fixed, it was an eye catcher.

 

 

On Screen MGR Fans were able to see all the artists and happenings from a distance.

 

The Hall was fully crowded, see for yourself the people standing near the Door. Most of them are from Madurai.

There was an excitement when Mrs.M.G.C.Leelavathy entered the Hall – she was the donor who donated Kidney to MGR in 1984.

M.G.C.Chandran, M.G.C.Prabhakaran, M.G.C.Rajendran, M.G.C.Vijayalakshmi and grandsons of M.G.Chakrapani – Praveen, Prasanth, Abishek and Pradeep.

 

 

MGR songs were performed by Samboo Orchestra. A small girl performed two songs one from Anbay Vaa “Love Birds”.

Urimai Kural MGR Editor B.S.Raju welcomed all the Chief Guests, and actress Bhavani (who acted as second Heroine – Classical Dancer role in Uzhaikum Karangal) was awarded in the dais by Pulavar Pulamaipithan.

 

 

 

She hesitated to speak at first but gave a small speech about MGR and this function.

Golden Jubilee Function Part II

These are the two papers out of 7 News papers that published the Golden Jubilee Celebration held by MGR Fans for the completion of 50 years of MGR movies in Rani Seethai Hall, 16th August 2009 in Chennai.

This Newspaper cutting is taken from "Dinasari" a Tamil daily published from Trichy, Madurai, Kovai, Vellore, Salem, Pondichery and Chennai.

Makkal Kural published not only about the actress who participated but also the resolution passed by various MGR Fans Association from Tamil Nadu.

Golden Jubilee Function Part I

UPDATED NEWS:

Golden Jubilee Function was a grand success. Nearly 1000 MGR Fans participated in Rani Seethai Hall.

In the morning Introduction of Tamil Nadu MGR Fans was organised in Royapettah. MGR Fans from all over Tamil Nadu Thirupur, Trichy, Tutucorin, Kovai etc. named will be published after getting all their names) partcipated. More number of Fans came from Madurai region. They were all wearing MGR logo white cap.

Thirupur Ravichandran welcomed all. Number of MGR Fans spoke on this dais including me.

Mega Event for Makkal Thilagam - Trailer

Only 9 days left for the mega event in Chennai. I was busy in giving final touches to MGR speech video of 1980. Grandson of MGR and M.G.Chakrapani Pradeep has posted the trailer of the mega event in his blog. The original version comes to nearly 1 Hour.

Golden Jubilee Function

I am happy to say that various MGR fans Association, Urimaikural Magazine and srimgr.com team will organize a function for our devoted Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR on completing 50 years of memorable movies such as Mallai Kallan, Madurai Veeran, Alibabavum Narpathu Thirudargalum etc. and also Nadodi Mannan (Golden Jubilee year). Though this function was planned to be conducted in the year 2008, that did not happen due to various reasons.

All are Welcome; You (with family) are invited for the Grand function to be held in Chennai Rani Seethai Hall on August 16th 2009.

No tickets, ADMISSION FREE, first come first served basis. Out station MGR Fans are requested to inform us earlier about your participation.
