Sri MGR Year 95, 28th October, Sunday
In 1977, Tamil Nadu State is expecting a General Election. For MGR Fans this is the year that their beloved Leader going to take up the Chief Ministership of Tamil Nadu.
For MGR he has to leave the lucrative business and serve the people full time. On 30th June 1977 MGR (King of Kings) took oath as the Chief Minister and remained as the undisputed and undefeated King of Tamil Nadu till his last breath. 1977 memorable year for MGR fans for Cinema as well as in Politics. They made a mark in the World, for the first time by selecting their beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR as their ruler.
Before Elections two MGR movies were released one was A.P.Nagarajan’s first venture as MGR movie director in Navarathinam (another unfinished movie he directed was Annavin Thambigal).
Above are the images that have appeared in those days magazines as well as Tamil Newspapers. Navarathinam was released on 5th March, 1977. The movie was average one, when I watched this movie for the first time, I felt why MGR acted in such a movie? On watching for the second time my thoughts changed.

Another movie which was released just before Election was Indru Pol Endrum Vazhga. Release date is 5th May 1977. Another 100 days movie of MGR. I had another advertisement but I particularly selected this one because in the bottom of the ad you can see the Editor name.

A lovely song, starts in the mid night and ends in the dawn all of them are looking fresh except MGR who after attending meetings came to this song shoot. (Actor Vijayakumar had given an interview about this song that the Director requested MGR to finish the song shoot another day but MGR insisted to finish it on the same day no matter how he his looking he did not want to waste the call sheet of other actors). Though MGR is looking tired he is glittering as usual. Watch the video and what do you say.

The movie Meenava Nanban was released shortly after MGR becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Note that only Makkal Thilagam title is given in the advertisement.
Another ad is about the 63rd day of Meenava Nanban movie. Meenava Nanban became a super hit MGR movie.
MGR Devotee Tirupur Ravichandran has informed about the re-release of Baghdad Thirudan in Coimbatore Delite theater, the same movie was re-released in the nearby theater Royal just a couple of months back.

After MGR was ousted from DMK on 10th October 1972, our beloved Leader Puratchi Thalaivar MGR floated a new party on 17th October 1972, after his one week hectic tour over Tamil Nadu.
The party faced the first Assembly election in 1977. During 1st March 1977, ADMK Party gave the below advice to the party members how to work in the forthcoming election.
The words published in the notice are true to its core. Mass support which MGR had and how he utilized to its full potential, the real power of Revolutionary Leader MGR.
Note how much positive words are to used to motivate MGR’s Blood Brothers, some are Victory is Ours and இப்படை தோற்கின் எப்படை வெல்லும் there is also a line about how lavishly the DMK party spends for the election.
