The temple was constructed by MGR Devotee Kalaivanan and his wife Shanthi Kalaivanan in Nathamedu near Thirunindravoor. MGR temple was consecrated on 15.8.2011 and thousands of MGR devotees from Tamil Nadu and other States participated and got the blessings of MGR.

Excerpt from the Times of India News paper.

The temple itself was built by an MGR Fan, Kalaivanan who sold his property and pawned his wife jewellery to garner funds for it. Costing over 21.5 lakh, the temple has three idols of MGR, a six foot tall one in the inner sanctum, a two foot long idol inside the temple and a third one on the temple tower. We performed an alankaram (dressing up) ceremony for the six foot tall idol, said Kalaivanan, who was one of organisers. And for the two foot idol, we performed over 12 different kinds of abhishekams (offerings)  using 60 litres of milk, curd, coconut water, panchamirtam and holy ash among others.
