Duet songs in MGR movies

One of MGR fans have asked me to upload two duet songs of MGR in this blog. Instead I will write about the song sequence.

Duet songs in MGR movies that too dream songs are noteworthy. The theme is mostly fantasy based. One theme will be under water, Sea bed in Nadodi Mannan, Water ballad in Ulagam Sutrum Valiban, in another planet such as in Thozhilali and Rickshawkaran.

In Anbay Vaa MGR is Millionaire JB, but acts as a Secretary of JB. Before this song MGR pretends that he is seriously ill and gets the notice of Sarojadevi.

In this song MGR looks very beautiful, royal, charismatic, romantic and stylish. The costume as a King (European style) suits him well too. The background for chariot scene looks like colliding of galaxies syncs well with the characters of MGR and Sarojadevi.

Anbay Vaa rights for Salem and South Arcot

Ravindran MGR pictures story writer when he visited a foreign country a person who was checking the baggage asked him is this your Prince, pointing to a photo Ravindran had in the bag, the person in the photo was none other than MGR in Anbay Vaa royal costume. He said, No he is my Leader.

And a question who dreams this song? Write your views.

Invincible MGR

After the release of teaser trailer of Puratchi Thalaivan in Internet the reaction was amazing from MGR Fans. The official website of Puratchi Thalaivan has added many features after January 17th. Now you can download MGR’s unique style wallpapers, the one he poses in the ship was awesome. I thank mayabimbam team for the movie and also for the nice and cool website.

Puratchi Thalaivan MGR

This is Malathi Rangarajan’s write up on Hindu Cinema plus, Friday January 23, 2009.

A Teaser trailer on the net on January 17 has attracted the attention of more than 2,000 MGR fans in a matter of just two days! We timed it to coincide with MGR’s birthday. Though the teaser per se has nothing to do with the animation film, ‘Puratchi Thalaivan’ we are working on, we wanted to know the pulse of the viewer. The feedback has been amazing, smiles Sridevi Rao, its producer.

Thalaivar on the ship

We at Mayabimbam wish to make wholesome family entertainers with messages for society at large. ‘V4’ had them too. But as we did not have popular personalities imparting the ideals, the messages did not percolate to every stratum. So we decided  to go in for a famous figure this time Who else can do it better than MGR himself? is Sridevi’s contention.

The film will be in typical MGR format, with its quota of songs, dances, villains and stunts. So who’ll play the bad man? I assure you it will be someone  who was a perfect foil for the hero during that era. From Nambiar and M.R.Radha to Asokan and Manohar the options are aplenty.

As a screen pair the MGR-Saroja Devi combo was always a sell-out. The two will be seen together in the animation version also. We’ve spoken to Saroja Devi and she’s very happy with the project. We intend to use her voice for Puratchi Thalaivan.

January 17, 2010 has been envisaged as the release date of Puratchi Thalaivan. The entire team is working hard with the time frame in mind, says Sridevi.

I humbly request MGR fans to participate in Puratchi Thalaivan website and give comments and suggestions that will help bring our Thalaivar back to silver screen in all his glories.

Thanks to MGR Devotee Yukesh Babu who informed me the Cinema plus editorial of MGR Returns!

Kanchikode Puduchery Vijayan

In the heart of Puduchery Vijayan Makkal Thilagam MGR is still living.

Kanchikodi Puduchery Vijayan from Kerala is very busy during Makkal Thilagam MGR’s birthday. This year also Makkal Thilagam MGR 92nd Birthday was celebrated in a grand manner.

kpvijayan

On the eve of MGR’s birth day Kanchikode Puduchery Vijayan starts to built a temple with vazhapol (using Banana stalk to construct small temple to deities in Kerala) forgetting his sleep. He keeps MGR’s decorated photo with two leaves symbol along with Kuthuvilakku, Nirapara (Bowel with paddy) Pookula (Nerkathir) and with several small lamps. A typical Kerala tradition of honouring the God. MGR birthday function starts grandly by Chendamalam. Vijayan distribute sweets from morning to night.

Washerman by occupation Vijayan is regularly conducting MGR birthday function right from his teenage.

Kanchikode Puduchery Vijayan house name is MGR Nivas and he named his 3 sons as 1.Viju Ramachandran, 2.Viju Ranjith, 3.Viju Raj all from the name of MGR and also the characters of MGR movies the second one is from Ranjith (Ninaithathai Mudipavan) and third from Raj (Ulagam Sutrum Valiban). His wife name is Jothi but he calls her by one of MGR’s heroine name.

On 24th December 1987 on hearing the death of MGR he tried to kill himself but God’s wish his parents saved him. Like many MGR fans he likes MGR because, MGR is the Saviour of the Poor people. He also provides drinking water to the school children of L.P.School in Puduchery (Kerala).

mathurubhoomi

When he reaches home from tiresome work he use to see atleast one MGR movie before going to sleep. His neighbours tell that in his shop he always listen to MGR songs only.

He swears that to his last breath he will follow the foot steps of MGR and he will be helpful to others.

Happy Birth Day Thalaivaa

This is the 275th post, I was thinking what to post today, but the grandest of all came online. The trailer of MGR animated movie Puratchi Thalaivan. First time in the world a Tamil Actor (who left earth 21 years back and 31 years from the movie world) is back again through animation. MGR movies are money spinner. It is proved even in this High Tech century.

This is the official web site of Puratchi Thalaivan Click

The website carries the capiton "MGR's first 3D animated Film"

The video clip starts with the title given to other actors such as Super Star, Supreme Star, Mega Star, Ultimate Star, Little Super Star, Winning Star, Victory Star - The Star of all Stars our MGR.

The clipping continues a red screen on it tamil words வாழ்ந்தவர் கோடி மறைந்தவர் கோடி மக்கள் மனதில் நிற்பவர் யார்? now the screen opens and MGR emerges, does some Nadodi Mannan style and a ship is sailing and MGR shooting an arrow.

Watch for yourself. The video clip is 8 MB size and time is 2 minutes.

Review Pallandu Vazhga

Udhayam Productions “Pallandu Vazhga” is remake of Shantaram’s “Dho Angkein Bara Hath”. Recently “Ananda Vikatan” has issued the vintage edition of 16.11.1975.

It has a three page review of MGR acted Pallandu Vazhga. The review tells that MGR lived as the character. They also mention about the role done by six characters in the movie. How the villains performed in comedy too.

pv_review_1_2

A special mention about the heroine Latha, all duet songs in this movie are dream songs, all dreams of Latha alone.

The scene were MGR’s six friends gets beaten by the villain group and no hitting back raises a question is this a MGR movie? Yes this is not only MGR movie but this is his ambitious project.

pv_review_3

Though the review has mentioned that there was no political dialogue in this movie. But still there is one or two soft political dialogs.

The movie has lot of uncommon listing such as the play back, MGR’s most play back singer was T.M.Soundarrajan.  But in this movie MGR replaced TMS to Yesudas. His soft tone very well matched MGR’s Leadership in this movie.

MGR and Poet Laureate

Kavingar Kannadasan wrote many beautiful poems for MGR movies. In 1953 when MGR was in DMK, the party had Anna Durai as their Leader, E.V.K.Sampath second to the Leader. Apart from MGR the party had prolific with the pen Karunanidhi and Kannadasan. Together they (MGR, Kalaingnar and Kannadasan) contributed to the movie and as well as the politics.

DMK had a minor split in 1960 E.V.K.Sampath and Kannadasan and others left the party. Though MGR and Kannadasan were in other team they worked in many movies despite of their difference. The rift become severe when MGR was ousted from DMK in October 10, 1972.

Still Kannadasan wrote bad about MGR in his books, poems. And MGR last lyric from Kannadasan is for the movie Urimai Kural. Then by 1977 MGR assumed Power the ruler of Tamil Nadu. After becoming the Chief Minister MGR appointed Kannadasan as the Poet Laureate this raised many eyebrows.

MGR said with smile he was against me and I am not against his poems.

mgr_kannadasan

Kannadasan met MGR before the ceremony and thanked him with glistened eyes. Further he mentions the great characters of MGR. He treats friends as friends, enemy as enemy. He does not back stab his enemies like others. When I talked to him (in 1980) I did not see Madurai Veeran or Mannathi Mannan or Rajadesingh or Nadodi Mannan but I saw Tamil people most trusted GREAT HUMAN BEING.

I have praised many but they have ditched me though I have  given bouquets and brickbats to MGR but he is the only one who cared and helped me. For me MGRs M and G is Magnanimity and Generosity.

In the image the person to the left of MGR is Vasu my neighbour whose aunt is Mrs.Parvathy Kannadasan.

Animated movies

This from the website telugu365.com

Seeing the caption above, are you wondering how can Late MGR compete with Rajnikanth? Then here it is, the animated avatars of MGR and Rajnikanth are competing with each other.

It is already known that Rajnikanth‘s daughter, Soundarya, has embarked on an animated film "Sultan" which has animated Rajnikanth as the hero. The role has indeed been given voice by the Superstar himself. Freshly, there is an attempt by Mayabimban Media Pvt Ltd, a animation studio based in Chennai, to bring on screen the animated version of Late MGR in a animation movie named "Puratchithalaivan".

There is considerable buzz surrounding these two films in Kollywood as both of them have Superstars, one of the bygone era and another the current one. Who shall win? Let us hope both to do equally well.

And the same in Tamil website. Click to read.

Hero Returns

Wishing all our Blog readers Happy New Year 2009.

mgr_image_1

This is an excerpt from Frontline magazine February 1985. The images is by P.Narayanan, write up by V.Jayanth, and I thank Mr.Venkatesan who forwarded the images and magazine.

mohite

Lakhs of MGR Devotees and Fans camped Mohite Stadium prior to MGR’s arrival to India.

A Hero’s return

The mist-covered St.Thomas Mount provided the backdrop, the splendour of dawn and the rising radiance of the sun lit up the Mohite Stadium and the mass of humanity filled every bit of space in the military grounds, after waiting out the night to receive their hero.

mohite_2

“MGR retains the magical relationship with the masses. A section of the crowd photographed in the morning haze, as the hero responds to the tremendous reception”.

February 4, 1985 seemed to mark yet another turning point in Tamil Nadu’s political journey apart from bearing witness to a medical miracle.

mgr_image_3

Tremendously upbeat scene on seeing the people

The one message that the public reception drove home was that MGR was near-normal, except for the speech impairment. The hero of over a 100 film triumphs carried the day, leaving the lakhs of people who turned up to witness the spectacle in a state of delirium.

mgr_image_4

And this emotional one for MGR personality on seeing the Love people showered on him

It started at the airport itself. The unexpected 40-minute hold up on the foggy runway, of the Boeing 747 which brought MGR from New York, perhaps gave enough time for the Chief Minister to get over the jet lag to an extent and freshen up for his first public appearance in more than four months.

mgr_car

At six minutes to the stroke of seven, the familiar green Ambassador with the red blinker lights atop drove up the special ramp to the back stage. A door at the rear of the stage opened up and the charismatic leader in fur cap and dark glasses walked up briskly from end to end, wearing his winning smile and waving his right hand, sending the masses into raptures – yes, the same right hand which had been paralyzed by the October 13 stroke.

Repeated attempts by Finance Minister V.R.Nedunchezhian to make him relax and sit on the chair proved futile, with MGR brushing aside the suggestion that he needed this kind of concession to his health.

If proving his physical fitness was not enough, he lost no time in displaying his mental alertness and consciousness. Spotting Assembly Speaker K.Rajaram, Legislative Council Chairman M.P.Sivagnanam and the various Cabinet Ministers seated about 10 meters away in the VIP enclosure. MGR promptly beckoned them to the rostrum, much to their delight. All of them, women Ministers included, scrambled to the dais and an emotional scene followed.

home

MGR pays homage to his mother Sathya at the temple in Ramavaram Gardens

Sensing quickly that the people had become restive since they could not see him, he walked to the front again and gave his characteristic ‘V’ signal, denoting his party’s two leaves symbol. Speech had become redundant in this communication between the leader and the people with whom he retained a magical relationship.

Time was running out and the show could not go beyond the maximum 20 minutes. MGR had to reach his Ramavaram Gardens before the 7.30 a.m. deadline. So he waved to the people and drove away.

mgr_image_2

A traditional greeting to the Chief Minister

The murmurs built up to a crescendo, as the enthralled crowd was quick to react and comment. The sceptics had no doubt kept a close watch on his right limbs and the lips. Except that he was a shade slower, emotionally brittle and tired, there was no visible impairment in his movements.

Why should they have published such pathetic pictures of our MGR during the elections? the AIADMK partymen wanted to know. Others opined that the latest video of the reception in Brooklyn before his departure did not do justice to the “miraculous recovery”. Many remembered their promise to some deity to tonsure their heads – a notable development since MGR took gravely ill was the conversion of semi-believers and closet believers into ardent devotees who had no inhibitions about advertising their visits to the nearest temple.
