Sri MGR Year 95, 6th April, Friday
The Hindu Friday issue in Books review column, a Tamil novel by name Malaikkallan written by Namakkal Kavignar (Namakkal Ramalingam Pillai) was reviewed. Below is the review that has appeared.
A classic, this novel of adventure has been released after a gap of 16 years. The first edition rolled out in 1942 and was a best seller.
The celluloid version with MGR and Bhanumathi in the lead was a super hit too. The story of a golden-hearted bandit and his escapades laced with romance has eternal charm although the style and diction do sound outdated.
The book is published by:
Pazhaniappa Brothers, Chennai.
Price of the book is Rs.150.
The movie was shot in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages. But the Tamil version enacted by MGR received the Government of India Lotus Award.
The cast includes apart from MGR and Bhanumathi are; M.G.Chakrapani (as the Inspector) T.S.Durairaj, Sriram, D.Balasubramaniam, P.S.Gnanam, E.R.Sahadevan.
