Nadodi Mannan Revisted Part I

MGR's one of the Block Buster movies Nadodi Mannan was re-released in Chennai last year. I have given some insight about the story, characters and also about the reaction of MGR fans.

Here is the reaction of MGR fans captured by the camera for the movie Nadodi Mannan.

Date : 4.8.2006
Time : 5 pm
Venue : Bharath Theatre, Chennai

As usual various MGR Fan clubs started to show their respect and faith in MGR. Garlanding the Big Cut outs, pouring Milk and Giving Sweet Pongal.

Involved Fan clubs:
(1) Kalai Venthan MGR Trust - R.Loganathan and S.S.Perumal
(2) Ponmanachemmal Sri MGR Bakthargal - Yukesh Babu and Sathya
(3) Makkal Thilagam MGR Pothunala Mandram - Raj and Baskar
(4) Ponmanachemmal MGR Bakthargal - M.K.Venkat, B.Unni Krishnan, D.Kumar, G.Raja, S.Velu and others

They placed dozens of Stars, placards and paper cuttings - see the photos below.

Most of the fans were ecstatic when milk was poured over MGR. Some showed "V" sign. Note a fan out stretching both hands, feelings that he has seen God.

After the main function crackers are fired engulfing the whole area with smoke. All these functions takes place in middle of the busy Road. Watch the traffic!

Smokes Smokes Smokes

These functions are funded by their own earned money nothing came from the Party or Fan clubs as done by other Actors.

Ulagam Sutrum Valiban Records Part II

Ulagam Sutrum Valiban was released without posters because the then Government increased the Tax on posters and also increased the Entertainment Tax. (This invisible killer destroyed most of the Tamil film heroes of that time including Ravichandran, Muthuraman, A.V.M.Rajan, Gemini Ganesan, S.S.Rajendran etc. and also Mu.Ka.Muthu the most touted hero to replace MGR) the survivors were MGR and Sivaji Ganesan, who had large fan followers.

Here are few paper cuttings from 1973 giving the insight of the record created by Ulagam Sutrum Valiban.:

Celebration in Chennai

I made four video clippings of the celebrations that comes to nearly 10 minutes but the person behind me (who is drunk) spoiled the enthusiasm of the celebration uttering all the bad words in the world. I don’t have the software to remove the audio so I discarded the video and uploaded this nice ending to the Celebration.

Persons involved in the celebrations are Yukesh Babu, Sathya, D.Raja, D.Kumar they are from Ponmanachemmal Sri MGR Bakthargal Trust, Chennai.

Mr.Baskar and B.S.Raj of Makkal Thilagam MGR Pothunala Mandram. Baskar is organizing such celebration right from the period of MGR while he was in Movie Industry.

An Event for God MGR

MGRism is religion MGR is God.

I planned to write the second part of Ulagam Sutrum Valiban records, but Sathya phoned me and passed the massage to be present in Mahalakshmi Theatre for the movie "Ayirathil Oruvan" I rushed to the theatre I saw gathering, most of them are not above 40 years. There was an event going on.

Yukesh Babu introduced me to some of his friends. Just then Sathya came by and thanked me for the visit. We went inside the Theatre, climax Scene Matinee show was going on. Yukesh pointed to a Big notice affixed it said, "No Camphor or Candle should be lighted" This was posted because of MGR fans.

41st Division Amma Paraavai garlanded the MGR cut out. After this Ponmanachemmal Sri MGR Bakthargal Trust started there function. Which I recorded the whole function went for 30 minutes I shot only 10 important minutes. Some of the clips I will upload in my coming blog. Sathya started to put small garland to giant size garland for MGR the last garland was done my his mother, who is also a MGR devotee.

After garlanding MGR, they poured Santhanam or Sandal and finally with Milk then 1000 wala cracker continued. Passers by looked with awe on this function. Sweet Pongal were given to everybody who came to watch MGR starred Movie.

Theatre management gave a strict order not to use flowers when MGR frame flickers in the silver screen, they tried to convince the Manager and the Owner of the Theatre but they did not allow. Finally MGR Devotees boycotted the show and gave the tickets to the people who came to watch the movie.

Re-Release of One in One Thousand

Ayirathil Oruvan re-released in Mahalakshmi Theatre today (3.8.2007) before this, 3 days back MGR Fans garlanded the Coming soon poster!

The Theatre spent Rs.20,000/- to the new print for this particular release. Remember the previous with bad print, people still filled the movie hall. I expect a good return to the Theatre owners. More news about this movie in my coming Blog.
